Here Comes the Sun…
We have a room off of the kitchen-dining area that has windows on two sides and a French door on the third side. The former homeowners had 4 wingback chairs in it, but it doesn’t really work as a formal room, so we decided to use it as a sunroom with an outdoor feel.
Jeff started calling it the “conservatory” as a joke. I ran with this idea and started looking for outdoor furniture that would also look appropriate inside the house. We found a set on clearance at Kirkland’s at the end of the summer season (which looks like Pottery Barn without the steep price tag.) We also found a rocking chair on clearance that worked with the chair and small sofa.
I had a few chinoiserie pillows that matched a lot of the décor pieces I’ve been collecting from various places which works well on the furniture. We also picked up some plants that add to the “conservatory” feel. Eventually, we want to get some small fruit trees that can be put on the deck in the summer and pulled inside over the colder months.
The ceiling fan was very outdated, so we ordered one in polished nickel (and white) to match the finishes already installed on the main floor. It took Zachary and Jeff two days to finish this project as it was very high up and intricate work.
Thankfully, they knew what they were doing.
I think I’m going to enjoy this room. When we get the backyard cleared out, it’ll have a great view of the river and the fields beyond. It will also be a lovely spot to drink my coffee in the morning. As a matter of fact, I’ve started calling it the “morning” room for that very reason. Jeff is sticking with calling it the “conservatory” though. I’m ok with that…as long as he doesn’t start carrying around a lead pipe or wrench like in the game Clue. If he does, I think I will start to worry that this remodel had finally gotten to him ala Jack Nicholson in “The Shining” and will make a hasty retreat.
Until that day comes, however, I will enjoy his “conservatory” to my heart’s content….
