Mood swing….

I love to swing. I always have. Growing up I lived next to the school yard where I could swing to my heart’s content. That was back in the days when there weren’t fences because we weren’t such a litigious society. I actually broke both of my arms (at different times) on that playground-not during school, so I kinda get it….

During the Covid lockdown, I asked Jeff to gift me a porch swing for my birthday for our backyard (at our old house). He was kind enough to oblige, and we all enjoyed a lot of time in the backyard until we moved. It soothed the soul.

I really needed a soul-soother during this remodel, but I didn’t get my swing up and running until a few weeks ago.  At this house, there is a wonderful screened-in porch, but it needed a lot of work. Since the porch wasn’t a high priority, it had to wait.

We had Richard paint the porch the same white as the house. He also had to paint the trim around all of those screens, which was time consuming. Thankfully, the screens, floors, and walls were in good shape.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a door or steps.

Not sure why there weren’t steps, but there weren’t. (Who steals steps?!)

Jeff and I purchased some concrete steps and a screen door at Sutherland’s which work perfectly.  We also purchased an outdoor rated ceiling fan to replace the dilapidated one that sported a host of wasps.  There were already hooks for a porch swing, so installing ours was a piece of cake. It’s the one room in the house that I didn’t need to purchase any furniture as we already had what we needed. It’s not lost on me that technically it isn’t a “room,” and it isn’t IN the house….

We take victories when we can get them.

We are enjoying our porch this fall. We have been working (and by “we” I mean Jeff and the boys) to clear out the scrub trees in the backyard, which has been a Herculean task. When Tyler (oldest) has been home from grad school, he has been a tremendous help as has his brother (Zachary).  I am sure when Tyler has come home for “breaks”, he didn’t have tree removal in mind…. He jumped right in and helped including pulling his dad up from the side of the embankment. Our backyard drops off drastically in spots and can be dangerous. No broken bones occurred, thankfully…

Probably because I WASN’T involved….

We now have a lovely view from my swing. It’s been such a blessing, as I am sure the rest of the family agrees. My mood has been much better now that I have a spot to relax because we know taking baths didn’t do it! (see earlier posts…).
