Snow Days…
Wow! We got a lot of snow….
So much snow that it shut down many of Kansas’s highways.
Jeff was our “hunter gatherer” on Friday evening. What should have been a painless Wal Mart and Sam’s pick-up turned into a 3 hour nightmare as each location was crazy busy.
At Sam’s, he had to wait in a long line just to get to the parking spot for the pick-up. At Wal Mart he waited for 45 minutes for them to bring out ONE item, a car cover for Tyler’s car, which is now sitting covered in over a foot of snow.
He also ventured into HyVee, where he battled for an hour getting the groceries we couldn’t get at Sam’s. He said it was like a third world country in there, or like TJMaxx is all the time.
But he did it! He battled the frenzied shoppers in time for the big storm. Big time husband credit!
Early Saturday morning, we made a coffee run as the weather hadn’t started yet. I decided I wanted to paint the half bath on the main floor, so I had him run into Home Depot for paint. It wasn’t as psychotically busy as the grocery stores were.
I’ve been thinking about painting the half bath for quite some time and thought a snowed-in weekend was the perfect time to do it. Jeff took some convincing and negotiating, but I managed to get him to agree to buy the paint. I could NOT get him to agree to help with the painting.
That was the deal, and I kept my part of the bargain.
I spent about 3 hours painting the half bath with a custom paint color I had created for the nutcrackers that had recently been put in the garage for next season. (see earlier post)
I decided to “color drench” the room, which, for those that haven’t heard that term before, means painting the walls, trim, and ceiling the same color. I made that decision because that is a newer trend, not because I didn’t want to tape off the ceiling and trim…*wink* *wink*
Jeff did help me by pouring paint into the pan and removing the towel rack. Other than that, he stayed away and let me do my thing.
It’s not like a tiny half bath would be spacious enough for two of us anyway, but don’t tell him I said that….
I like how the room turned out. At one point, I was considering wallpapering but realized paint is cheaper, easier, and can be quickly changed, and since I was forging ahead with this project solo, I wanted it to be easy.
Jeff did earn more husband credit this weekend by snow blowing our large driveway. That took him about 2 hours, so I think we are about even. At least, I will have more to show for my work. His will all melt away….
All in all, I think I spent my snow days wisely. I have an updated half bath, and Jeff didn’t have to paint. We both got what we wanted….
