How to make Good Friday, a Great Friday…
So, there I was…lying on my face this morning confessing my sins….
Was this a new behavior for me? Absolutely not! I actually keep a running list. I have a note in my phone where I jot things down that I need to confess or people I need to forgive. And, after I put it off for a few days (ok-weeks), I take care of whatever is on the list.
Today’s prayer was about being pessimistic; always assuming the worst will happen.
What makes this a sin? I allowed it to rob me of hope.
What a slap in the face to Jesus to walk around without the hope He has called us to! (Ephesians 1)
After crying a bit, beating myself up for being this way, especially on Good Friday, I had the revelation that Good Friday was the BEST day to take care of that particular problem.
What better day is there?!
Today is the day we are to mourn what we, as a people, have done that caused the need for Jesus to die on the cross. Should we torture ourselves in grief?
I think not….
If we really want to celebrate His death and resurrection, we should REPENT! CONFESS our sins! FORGIVE those who have hurt us!
Why?
Because He died so that we can….
God corrected my attitude about confessing my sins today. Instead of wallowing in grief that I sinned, I should confess the sin and rejoice that He made a way for my freedom.
Ya know…
The whole point of Easter!
So that’s what I did. I confessed my sin of pessimism and asked Him to restore my hope. The very hope to which He has called us. The hope that is beyond our understanding….
So on this day that Satan thought he had the victory (Good Friday), I chose to get free from the sin that held me in his grip. And in doing so, I know there is rejoicing in heaven.
“I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 righteous persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15:7)
So, what do you say?
How about giving heaven some joy by honoring this day, and what Jesus did for you, by confessing your sins, and forgiving those who have sinned against you?
You won’t regret it….
Make Good Friday…a GREAT Friday!!!
