TJ, Tuffy, and the Magical Tile

It’s a strange experience as a new homeowner to have the guy measuring your house for flooring tell you that they measured more square footage for flooring than what you thought was the TOTAL square footage of the house AND you weren’t putting new flooring down in every room….

Well…something wasn’t right. Either they measured incorrectly, or we have a larger home than they listed when selling it. It was the latter….

Armed with this new info., we weren’t as upset with the flooring quote when TJ (Murray of Murray’s Flooring) gave it to us, even though it was huge, so massive in fact that Jeff had me change every one of the flooring options that I had picked out to ones more reasonable (party-pooper). I decided on a gray tile for the entire basement and the same tile in the areas on the main floor that had high traffic and water (entry, bathroom, laundry, kitchen).

I love this tile. It’s magical…. I say this because I chose a finish that hides dirt! That’s right, It’s amazing. You see most people think that the dirt we track around our homes is brown and, to a certain extent, it is, but when it gets tracked in your home, it’s much more gray.

TJ helped me pick out this magical tile by carrying it outside into the sunlight to see it in natural light, which I ALWAYS recommend for any color purchase whether flooring or paint.  (Poor guy had to do this for everything I looked at.) We gave a down payment and eagerly awaited the installation.

Tuffy is our tile guy. He contracts for TJ and is fantastic. He also, thankfully, has a good work ethic as our install took nearly two months due to challenges like our crazy curved walls.  Not only did Tuffy install our tile, but he also answered the door and brought in packages due to my ankle break which kept me from going upstairs. This is certainly not part of his regular service but he’s such a nice person, that he helped me out. It’s a comfort to know people like that still exist….

In other words, working with both TJ and Tuffy has been a lovely experience, and I highly recommend them and magical gray tile!
