War on Dust…
To say that we are dealing with construction dust would be a MASSIVE understatement.
It. Is. Everywhere!
Part of the problem is that we had to have the tile taken up in the basement and the grout ground out before the new tile could be installed. (Our poor contractor, Richard, worked on this project for weeks.) This made massive clouds of dust that we have been earnestly trying to get filtered out of the house.
The construction dust made the huge filters on our HVAC system clog within two weeks of installing new filters (which we discovered after calling them out to investigate why our basement was freezing cold). We now keep a close eye on those filters, and I’ve ordered more to have on hand. I’ve also purchased an extra air cleaner system that was rated #1 by Consumer Reports to help with the process. We have that in the bedroom, and it helps tremendously. We like to be able to breathe.
It has been so bad that Jeff has even taken it upon himself to start cleaning….
*GASP*
He has declared a one-man war against the invasive dust. He even purchased a new shop vac for the task. You see, the grit is all over the floor and gets dust on everything, even after multiple moppings. If we would drop anything on the floor, it would instantly be covered in the stuff. This became really frustrating for me as I am hobbling on a broken ankle, and I drop things regularly. My navy wardrobe becomes gray quickly when dropped…Yuck!
It is early days in the war on dust, but it seems to be working so far. I noticed this morning that when I dropped my navy tank top on the floor, it stayed clean. I announced this discovery at breakfast and Jeff celebrated with a few choice words that I won’t repeat here. Needless to say, he is happy with his cleaning system of shop vac and Swiffer Wet Jet.
And I am thrilled that I’m not cleaning—It’s a win-win!
